Week 4: May 22nd to May 28th
A lot of my work in this country, and especially in the United States, is extremely taboo. So, obviously I get a few bad reactions every once in a while. When conducting interviews, some faculty believe that I shouldn't be doing work or conducting them the way that I do (1-on-1), but I am running under full consent of the professors, parents, students, and director of the school. It is interesting to see how various perspectives have the potential of providing more information about my work in Trujillo and Huanchaco. Aside from my usual fieldwork, I have gotten a lot more comfortable speaking spanish (I would hope so haha), exploring the town, and partaking in the community. An example of this, is my daily trips to the local gym! Fitness is a big part of my life, and upon my arrival, I made sure that I could continue my journey -- I have met a lot of kind people that have taught my techniques and methods, all of which contribute to my livelihood. Although I miss home sometimes, I love the culture and community that I am building here.
