For centuries, the pornographic industry has set a precedent for sexual behaviors and schemas. Analysis of human sexual culture from hunter-gatherers to modern-day humans contextualize the social-sexual reliance on behavioral material to directly influence contemporary sexual scripts. While exploring the pornographic continuum, the presumptions in which sexual material purely benefits or harms human behavior are evidently reductionist. However, the exploration of the extent to which gay pornographic material can reflect adverse health effects is both justified and well-grounded, leading to the question: To what extent does gay pornography normalize unsafe sexual practices?
